To properly display images that have been accurately balanced you should adjust your monitor so that it shows all the 17 blocks (seen above) at once.
1. Turn the monitor contrast all the way up (the contrast control is sometimes represented with a circle that is half white and half black).
2. Adjust the monitor brightness up until you can see a difference between the darkest block and the one to the right of it.
3. If needed, adjust the monitor contrast until you can see the difference between the lightest block and the one to the left of it.
